Help while quitting smoking
The World Health Organization has classified tobacco as an addiction caused by nicotine, and is classified as point F17.2 of the International Catalogue for Illnesses, Revision 10. F17 means mental illnesses and disorder of behaviour due to tobacco consumption.
It is proved that nicotine produce three dependence types: physical, psychological and social. Physical dependence is usually perceived on the nicotine abstinence syndrome that appears after quitting smoking, or after a drastic reduction of the nicotine dose. That syndrome causes at least four of the following symptoms: tobacco desire, frustation, discomfort, tiredness, increase of food consumption and weight. It is experienced by 95% of all smokers after quitting, starts just after 2-12 hours of the last cigarette, have its peak after 2 or 3 days and lasts for 3-4 weeks.
Psychological dependence is sometimes linked to what´s called social dependence, that associates some more or less pleasuring activities with smoking, creating automatisms of doing that particular activity while smoking, or related to smoking. By this, smoking can be transformed into a fundamental instrument of daily life, as a joker to maintain a conversation, business meetingsĀ
Creates daily gestures associated to smoking, and it is more resistant than physical dependence.
